Yahoo News Penny Dreadful spin-off brings back familiar face
Penny Dreadful spin-off series City of Angels is bringing back one of the show's original cast members.
Rory Kinnear, who played Frankenstein’s Monster in Penny Dreadful, has joined the spin-off as Dr. Peter Craft, a successful German paediatrician.
Dr. Craft is the head of an organisation named the German-American Bund, which he hopes will keep the United States isolated from the growing threat of war in Europe.
The cast of City of Angels is headed up by Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer, who will play Magda, a supernatural demon who can take the appearance of anyone she chooses.
Also joining her are Jessica Garza (The Purge) and Johnathan Nieves (New Amsterdam).
Set in 1938 Los Angeles, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will feature brand new characters and storylines.
The synopsis reads: When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) is embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city's first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.
Dormer starred as Margaery Tyrell for six seasons on Game of Thrones before she was blown up in a massive green explosion.
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels marks her return to Showtime having previously starred as Anne Boleyn in their series The Tudors. Her other credits include Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Scandalous Lady Woman and Elementary.
As for movies, her credits include starring in the likes of The Forest, The Hunger Games franchise and Captain America: The First Avenger.
