Firefly was cruelly cancelled 15 years ago now, but if you're anything like us, you're probably still not over it. Still, we bring good news.

Nathan Fillion, who of course played spaceship captain Mal Reynolds in the all-too-short sci-fi drama, is actually paying tribute to his iconic role in ABC's family sitcom American Housewife.

The actor will guest star in two episodes of the series later this season, and as we can see in this first-look pic, he's wearing the very coat and shirt Mal used to wear:

And if that photo didn't give you enough of a thrill, Fillion also posted something costume-related on his Instagram, captioning it: "Tight, but 'like a glove' tight. Seems... right."

Tight, but “like a glove” tight. Seems... right. #americanhousewife

Still, ABC does say that Fillion will be appearing as himself on American Housewife. Could there be a Firefly reboot in the works on American Housewife, and Fillion is simply shooting it?

We live in hope.

In the real world, there is already a Firefly revival happening... just not on TV.

Joss Whedon's cult classic is coming back in book form, with Whedon himself serving as consulting editor, and the first novel is coming later this year.

The director has promised that he will never bring it back on telly, but at least we can soon read about new adventures – and now look forward to seeing Nathan Fillion back in that iconic coat.
