Historic flooding devastated parts of Kentucky last week, leaving at least 37 people dead and hundreds missing. Relief efforts have been slowed by the rugged terrain, while flooding has destroyed a number of isolated Appalachian communities. The Bluegrass State, which was previously hit with tornadoes in December, saw its National Guard join rescue efforts to assist rural and often impoverished communities.
