Overnight road closures on the A180 will now extend into the New Year, Grimsby Live can reveal.

Works have been taking place since mid-October on the westbound carriageway between Brocklesby Interchange with the A160 and Barnetby Top Interchange with the A15 and M180. These have involved overnight weekday closures between 8pm to 6am.

The westbound works were originally due to be completed by November 28, with works then beginning on the eastbound carriageway. But the schedule was weather-dependent, and bad weather and extra repairs work needed means the timetable has been revised, National Highways has said.

"We’re continuing to carry out specialist repairs and maintenance on the concrete surface of the A180 in both directions between the junctions with the A15 and A160," National Highways have said. To work safely, a mixture of overnight and daytime closures are needed.

"Due to recent weather conditions and the need for additional work to be carried out in this section, we now expect to be working in this section until mid-January 2025." The westbound carriageway overnight closures are now scheduled to conclude to last until December 10.

Overnight closures, Monday to Friday 8pm to 6am, on the eastbound carriageway will then occur from December 10 to December 20, and again, from January 2 to January 14. National Highways also require a 24/7 closure of lane one to allow time for the concrete to cure.

"We plan to remove all traffic management over the Christmas embargo period, from 6am on 20 December. We will then reinstate all traffic management on 2 January, with a lane one closure on the eastbound carriageway." All work will be subject to weather conditions.

The work being done this autumn and winter is to prolong the life of this section of the A180 by five years.
