We’ll take any excuse to party in 2020, and this Thursday, August 13 it’s an easy win - because it’s National Prosecco Day!

A chilled glass of the sparkling Italian wine is one of our favourite tipples to toast the good times… or, if we’re honest, any time.

Kinder to your wallet than Champagne and lovely on its own or with food and friends, Prosecco is also lighter on calories. It’s approximately 80cal a flute, although naturally, this changes from bottle to bottle.

Where does Prosecco come from?

Like Champagne, Prosecco is a protected name - only grapes grown in Italy’s Veneto region reserve the right to be called Prosecco. It comes in various degrees of fizziness – spumante (sparkling), frizzante (semi-sparkling) and tranquilo (still).

Prosecco tips and facts

  • The ideal temperature that Prosecco should be served at is 6-8°C

  • 45 degrees is the perfect angle to achieve the ultimate pour

  • Ideally Prosecco should be consumed within 12 months of bottling

How can you know if your Prosecco is the genuine article?

Look for the letters DOC or DOCG on the label: these letters guarantee the superior quality of the bubbling elixir within.

Research by top Prosecco producer Mionetto found 86 per cent of us feel joy when we’re opening a bottle, and more than half said it tasted all the sweeter when said bottle is on offer.

Which is precisely why we’ve rounded up the best deals, offers and brilliantly priced bottles for you to enjoy come Prosecco o’clock (which is 6.58pm on a Saturday, according to the research).
