Native Protesters Carry Giant Black Snake Through Streets of Washington

Native Americans and allies protesting for increased indigenous rights carried a giant black snake, representative of oil pipelines, with the words “no consent” written on it during the Native Nations March on March 10.

A large crowd of demonstrators gathered in front of the White House, Trump Hotel and the Army Corps of Engineers headquarters, calling for cleaner water, and rallying against the oil pipelines like the Dakota Access Pipeline. Many were dressed in colorful traditional and ceremonial costumes as they sang, danced and chanted through the streets. March organizers called upon allies and native people from all tribes and affiliations to unite and demand protection of the homelands and environment of indigenous peoples.
