NatWest's online banking service seems to have gone kaput on payday (well, for most people), leaving it in hot water with some customers.

In addition to an inaccessible online service and mobile app, some customers are reporting that transferred funds are not appearing at their intended destination, and are "disappearing".

In response, NatWest has said that its services are all working, but customers are "experiencing slowness trying to access them". It also says transfers are being "delayed" rather than lost.

"Making payments on @NatWest_Help online banking today is like buying a Glastonbury ticket," said one Twitter user.

Worrying errors such as this are driving customers toward telephone banking services, but long waiting times via phone have been reported, with queues of up to half an hour.

And the problems have arrived on the Friday before a bank holiday, only adding to frustrations.

The @Natwest_Help Twitter account has been inundated by complaints.

At the time of writing, NatWest has said it is "aware of issues with transfers this morning", and is "working hard to get this resolved".

If you're a NatWest customer and need to contact them via phone, dial 03457 888 444 in England and Wales or 03459 000 200 in Scotland.

It might also be worth visiting your nearest branch if you need to conduct an urgent transaction before the bank holiday.

You can find your closest easily using the NatWest branch locator.

We've reached out to RBS for comment on the issues experienced by NatWest, and it told Digital Spy: "We are aware that some customers are currently experiencing issues with our mobile app and online banking running slowly.

"Some customers are also seeing issues completing transfers on accounts. We are working hard to resolve this and apologise for the inconvenience caused".
