Navalny Ally Detained as Russian Police Crack Down on Opposition

Russian police detained Dr Anastasy Vasilyeva, an ally of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, after searching her Moscow apartment on January 27, local media reported.

An ophthalmologist, Vasilyeva is the leader of the trade union Doctors Alliance. The head of the organization’s legal department said she was detained for breaching “sanitary and epidemiological rules,” and that she would be kept at a temporary detention center for 48 hours.

Her lawyer said she left her two children at home when she was detained. This footage was captured by Vasilyeva, and shows police at the door of the apartment and her two children inside.
