There's been a lot said recently about Ziva David's NCIS return, and now executive producer Steven D Binder has teased a little bit more, promising that her story will come "full circle" in season 17.

Believed to have perished in an explosion back in 2013, in season 16 it was confirmed that Ziva was alive and had gone into hiding, before she made a shock return in the season 16 finale.

In the season 17 premiere, we also got a bit more information, learning that Ziva faked her death to protect her family as she was the target of the mortar attack on her father's farmhouse. Going deep undercover, she hoped to find out who wanted her dead.

Now, in conversation with ET Online, Binder sat down to discuss actress Cote de Pablo's big return and how the years Ziva spent in hiding will affect her storyline in the upcoming episodes.

"A lot of time has gone by. Things have changed about how Ziva feels about her former life, about the people in her former life," he explained.

"She's got a lot of issues that need to be resolved that may or may not necessarily get resolved in the way you'd expect."

He also added: "When she left, she left a child behind – and she left that child with Tony [DiNozzo]. So there are definitely questions there. Where has she been? Who knows what?"

Executive producer Frank Cardea also weighed in, explaining that "a lot of the story we tell goes all the way back to the very beginning of Ziva".

"We're going back to that history," he shared, before Binder added that they're approaching Ziva's storyline this season as a full-circle moment.

"There will be a very large full circle when all is said and done. It will be emotionally obvious. It will be for a lot of characters, not just Ziva," he teased.

"There's a big bookend here. When you see the B-side, you will know instantly what the A-side was."

NCIS airs on CBS in the US, and on FOX UK in the UK.
