Nearly 400 migrants rescued at sea - U.S. Coast Guard

STORY: A video posted on social media showed a sailboat carrying a large number of people being approached by rescue boats.

The U.S. Coast Guard said on Twitter it was assisted by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force "in stopping an unsafe, overloaded Haitian sailing vessel".

One person who had fallen off the sailboat was retrieved in the water, approximately 60 miles south the Bahamas, the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement.

It said 396 men, women, and children have been rescued during the missions in Bahamian waters on Saturday.

The U.S. Coast Guard said 375 Haitians and two Cubans were transferred to Bahamian authorities.
