CornwallLive readers have been discussing the recent revelation that Cornwall's only red-light camera (RLC) has caught hundreds of drivers in the act, according to new data. The camera in Truro camera has caught nearly 600 motorists for jumping red lights. And it's been revealed that another one is on its way.

A recent Freedom of Information (FoI) request responded to by Devon and Cornwall Police disclosed that there are currently four sites across the two counties equipped with 'red light' cameras. The police confirmed that over the past few years, numerous individuals have been caught running red lights, but this was solely due to the detection of RLCs.

One reader, Breton, commented: "Sorry all you conspiracy theorists but the money raised goes into the Consolidated Fund, a government account at the Bank of England. It is strictly audited and can only be used for road safety schemes. No backhanders, no brown envelopes and safer roads."

Chuffingr8 believes otherwise: "Obviously they make money from this, but if it's such a problem for people there is one clear solution - don't drive through a red light - simple really."

Lighthouse80 agrees: "Agree, it's not that difficult to understand is it? 600 people who think rules don't apply to them." Rrtt replied: "Couldn't have put it better myself. Not only that, it's dangerous."

Woody1961_ questioned the statistics: "I'd like to see the stats showing the number of accidents at this junction. I suspect the motivation for this installation is driven by greed and a seemingly relentless hatred in the UK for anything motorised. Perhaps not so much safety."

Stephen Norman wrote: "It’s war on the motorist. There’s the red light jumpers who couldn’t give a monkeys and there’s those who get caught on amber as they approach the lights. Big difference but I’m guessing all will be treated the same."

Don O’Treply replied: "It’s a war on the motorists who jump red lights. Not being one of those, I can’t see the problem but I guess some people prefer red lights to be indicative rather than definitive, keeps it exciting for everyone I guess!"

Wag said: "I don't have a problem with these lights, if you want to jump a red light and risk an accident you deserve the fine /points deduction."
