Neighbours has announced the return of Lana Crawford for the show's 35th anniversary next year.
Bridget Neval, last seen as the character in January 2005, is back and has reunited with Stephanie McIntosh – who plays Lana's on-screen love interest Sky Mangel and is also returning for the big occasion – on set this week.
Lana and Stephanie shared the show's first lesbian kiss in 2004, and both Neval and McIntosh said that it's only right that same-sex relationships have been accepted as completely normal on TV.
"These stories should be told on any show that purports to reflect society in an accurate way," Neval said. "It's not like gay, bi, and trans people were just invented."
McIntosh added: "While we did get a lot of support in 2004 around the Sky and Lana relationship, it also created some controversy as well. So it's refreshing that a same-sex relationship is no longer something out of the ordinary [and] there is no fuss around it."
The 35th anniversary episodes will air in March 2020, and Stefan Dennis, who plays Paul Robinson, previously told Digital Spy that it will be "one of the most dramatic, suspenseful, twisty, and explosive" storylines in the show's history.
Other returnees announced so far include Bruce Samazan (Mark Gottlieb), Melissa Bell (Lucy Robinson), Olympia Valance (Paige Smith), Paul Keane (Des Clarke), Andrew Morley (Jack Callahan), Annie Jones (Jane Harris), Damien Bodie (Dylan Timmins), and Scott McGregor (Mark Brennan).
Neighbours airs weekdays at 12.50pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
