Neighbours have clubbed together to reward a Sikh man who found international fame after he broke religious rules to save a little boy’s life.

Harman Singh made headlines around the world when he took off his turban to help little Daejon Pahia, 6, who had been hit by a car.

But in TV interviews, many viewers commented on Singh’s lack of futniture.

One viewer said, ‘It upsets us all to see such a lovely kind man living in such an empty home.’

Singh’s flatmate Ravi clubbed together with local furniture outlet Big Save Furniture to provide some home comforts.

When he arrived, Ravi was told by New Zealand's OneNews: ‘We got you some furniture! A lounge suite, a bed and a coffee table, for all the good that you've done.’

A clearly moved Singh said, ‘This is the biggest surprise of my life!’
