Neighbours confirms Glen Donnelly's return storyline

Neighbours spoilers follow for Australian and UK viewers.

Neighbours has revealed further details about Glen Donnelly's big return to the soap, confirming that he will first encounter Paul Robinson's estranged wife Terese Willis.

It was confirmed back in August that Glen would be returning to Neighbours after 29 years away, with original actor Richard Huggett reprising his role as Paul (Stefan Dennis)'s half brother. Now, fans are finally about to see him back on screen as he comes to Terese (Rebekah Elmaloglou)'s rescue.

According to TV Week, upcoming scenes will see Terese struggling to deal with her recent split from Paul, particularly when they are forced to work together at a conference in Queensland.

And when Terese find out that Paul hasn't headed home like he promised, she's furious at him, with actress Rebekah saying that her character "doesn't believe Paul at all".

Sadly, Terese's recent troubles have led her to consider drinking again following her previous battle with alcoholism. Although Chloe Brennan (April Rose Pengilly) recently managed to intervene and prevent Terese from drinking some wine, whilst at the conference, Terese doesn't have her friends around her as support and she soon has hold of a hip flask full of alcohol.

"Unfortunately, Terese has turned to alcohol in the past when times have been tough," Rebekah said. "The difficult break-up with Paul is a time where she's especially struggled. She's at breaking point, so she hits the bottle and goes for a walk – not in a good state."

After drinking and wandering alone, Terese ends up on the beach, completely disoriented. Thankfully, a kind stranger soon comes to her aid, but what Terese doesn't know is that the 'stranger' is actually Paul's brother, Glen, who knows her as Paul's colleague.

"It's concerning for a woman to be alone and drunk on the beach," Richard said, confirming that his character genuinely wants to help Terese. "I think anyone with an ounce of integrity would help someone in trouble. Glen felt sorry for her and, with the best intentions, wanted to get her back to the safety of the hotel room."

But when Terese finds out the next day who Glen really is, she's absolutely furious.

"She's not happy Glen didn't tell her the truth. She's also not happy about having another Robinson enter her life," Rebekah explained.

What Terese chooses to do with this information remains to be seen, but a new Neighbours trailer has revealed that Paul will also soon encounter Glen when he spots him from a distance, before they have a long-awaited confrontation almost 30 years after Glen's horrific rooftop fall.

Glen's return coincides with the comeback of his half-sister Lucy Robinson (Melissa Bell), who Richard previously revealed is the catalyst for Glen's return to Erinsborough.

"Ultimately, I come back to reconnect with Lucy," he said when his return was first announced. "As you know when I left, Paul and I were not on the best of terms so I come back to see Lucy and it goes on from there with all sorts of twists and turns and cliffhangers – but no hanging off of hotel roofs this time."

Neighbours will air these scenes next week in Australia and in a couple of weeks' time in the UK.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
