Eve Morey has landed her first role since leaving Neighbours.

The Gold Logie nominee exited the soap earlier this year after nine years, as Sonya Rebecchi passed away in a heartbreaking cancer storyline.

She will next feature in the second season of popular Australian drama Mystery Road. The first season won Most Popular Drama Program at least month's Logie Awards.

The second season follows a new case in a new coastal town, after Aaron Pedersen's character Detective Jay Swan relocates. Sofia Helin, known for The Bridge, was also announced to be joining the cast (via TV Tonight).

Morey previously discussed her future plans, saying that she was in no rush getting back into acting, but she added at the time that she would be interested if the right story came along.

"I want to stay in Australia," she said. "My thought was moving away from acting and getting more into coaching. And I wanted to do stuff around intimacy co-ordination and things like that.

"I really just want to tell good stories. If opportunities came up that were issue-based stories that were trying to say something of purpose, then that's amazing. But I'm also happy to step away and be with my kids and work on some other things."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
