Neighbours star Tim Kano has revealed that Leo Tanaka will be getting another new love interest this year.

Leo reunites with Terese Willis next week in the aftermath of their dramas with the Renshaw family, but as she still secretly has feelings for his father Paul Robinson, the love triangle seems far from over.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about the future, Tim hinted that Terese's recent near-death experience in The Waterhole shooting could ultimately push her towards Paul.

Tim explained: "I think Terese is confused. She knows that she has feelings for Leo, as she was with him in the first place. But she's been at death's door and she's realising that maybe Paul is the one she's supposed to be with. They've got more history than Leo realises.

"Leo's actions and behaviour are another thing that have caused cracks in their relationship. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out."

He continued: "Leo also forms a nice new bond with a surprising character in a romantic sense. It could be perceived as a revengeful move, but it's completely innocent and just happens out of a situation that's coming up.

"There's heaps of interesting stuff to come and a new bond that's formed as a result of the love triangle. It'll be really interesting to see what people think of it."

Tim acknowledged the fan popularity of Paul and Terese's 'will they / won't they?' dynamic, admitting that he can understand why so many people want them together.

He said: "I love Leo and Terese's relationship, I think it's been heaps of fun – definitely the build-up to it. I think it's a great plotline, especially because Leo has formed this great bond with Paul. He felt a lot of guilt and remorse over what he was doing, but he always follows his heart.

"I understand the fan reaction, as there's such a great depth of history between Paul and Terese. There's lots of banter between them, and even when they're fighting, you can see their love for one another.

"There's been so much support for Leo and Terese too, which was really surprising but great for us because we weren't sure how the audience were going to take the age gap. There are a lot of people who love it and are really supportive of it.

"But I can understand why, after all the history they have and the chemistry, people would love to see Paul and Terese together."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
