Yahoo News Neighbours recasts Pierce Greyson as Tim Robards leaves the show early
Neighbours has announced a surprise recast for Pierce Greyson, with Tim Robards deciding to leave the show earlier than planned.
Robards, who has played Pierce for two years, was originally scheduled to film his final scenes on Ramsay Street next month – news that the show hadn't announced until now.
But the star will finish four weeks early amid the pandemic, choosing to fly back to Sydney to be with his wife ahead of the birth of their first child.
The role of Pierce has been recast, with Don Hany taking over for the character's final scenes.
"I would like to thank the amazing cast, crew, Fremantle, and Network Ten for the incredible opportunity to play Pierce Greyson. I have absolutely loved my time on the show and will miss it immensely," Robards said.
"I made the gut-wrenching decision to depart Neighbours early, as my responsibilities as a husband and father have to take precedence.
"If I've learnt anything in this pandemic, it's that the health and wellbeing of my family has to come first."
Hany said of joining the show: "I'm thrilled to have been invited to be part of a show that is part of Australian television history. I've never done the show before so it's all new, and I'm so happy to be here.
"It's a testament to the resilience of the show that it's still running at a time like this."
In real life, Hany is married to Alin Sumarwata, a former star on the show who played Vanessa Villante.

Channel 5 viewers in the UK will see Robards for the last time as Pierce on Monday, November 9, with Hany making his first appearance on Friday, November 13.
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
