As fans of the Aussie soap will remember, Morey portrayed Sonya Rebecchi for a decade (2009-2019) before the character was killed off, with Dipi going on to become a mother figure of sorts to Toadie and Sonya's daughter Nell.
Posting on Instagram yesterday (March 30), Dipi actress Sharon Johal revealed that her former co-star was present on set while filming some emotional scenes recently, as she's now part of the production crew as an intimacy coordinator and acting coach.
"I just wanted to share this moment with you guys," she wrote next to a selection of behind-the-scenes snaps.
"There were so many tears in the lead up to leaving (acting and real ones) but some of the particularly sad scenes revolves around Dipi leaving Nell (and Hugo). Of course Dipi loves her own children (don't get me started on why Jay wasn't there from the beginning, obvi not my choice) but when Sonya died, she promised NOT to take her place, but to look after them as her own. And she did [sic].
"So when I first read the script and scene where Nell says 'I don't want you to leave me like mummy did', my heart broke into a million pieces and I cried like a baby on the couch hugging my hubby and dog. It was just so heartbreaking, I can't even imagine the pain children go through in these circumstances."
Sharon's caption continued: "What you guys probably don't realise is that these 'TV' kids grow up with us, around and amongst us and we experience so many integral moments together for the first time. Cutie patootie @iconicjohn (Hugo) has literally turned into a little man before my very eyes and for nearly 4 years, babygirl @scarlettroseanderson has only ever called me Dipi, and not Sharon, and we never discussed the difference.
"Leaving her (in real life) was just as tough and we worry about how she would take on this information. Turns out she took it like a champ, just like she did when our good friend Eve Morey (Sonya) left.
"Big props to production for ensuring our beautiful Eve was on set to navigate the sensitivities of this 'lonely Nell sitting on Sonya's memorial bench' scene with Scarlett (Nellyfish) and to the writers for pulling on our collective heartstrings!"
The memorial bench scenes aired on the soap earlier this month, as Nell took the news of Dipi's reunion with Shane Rebecchi very hard and ran away.
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
