Neighbours star Jackie Woodburne has said Izzy Hoyland's shock return will plunge Susan Kennedy back into a dark place.

Izzy made her long-awaited comeback in last night's hour-long special, immediately throwing the Kennedy couple into new peril.

Unfortunately, that's just the start of the story as Izzy has actually headed back to Erinsborough with a controversial proposal for Karl (Alan Fletcher) – and it could have devastating consequences for Susan.

Speaking to the Express, Jackie – who plays Susan – said: "Izzy has got this outrageous idea that she would like to have another child – a sibling for Holly – and she would like the sibling to have the same DNA as Holly. That means Karl would be the father of this child.

"She's prepared to sweeten the pot by knowing that Karl has this vision. He's on a bit of an ego trip at the moment and is worried about his legacy and he thinks if he can create a legacy in the hospital wing then his work will live on.

"Susan dismisses it immediately – it's appalling! But Karl doesn't and she feels totally betrayed and she's taken back to that horribly dark place where she was in the previous Izzy debacle. She's plummeted into the worst possible place she could be."

In a recent chat with Digital Spy, Natalie Bassingthwaighte – who plays Izzy – revealed that her character could be even more hated this time around.

"If you loved to hate her before, you're going to love to hate her even more this time around. It's next level stuff – you won't believe what she can conjure up in her head," she teased.

"Her intentions come from a place of naivety, but they are also quite skewed in a very bizarre way. She needs a reality check but that's just Izzy being Izzy."

Neighbours airs weekdays on Channel 5.
