Nessie? ‘Mystery Beast’ Seen Swimming Through The Thames

It is famed for living in the lakes of Scotland - but some people think that the Loch Ness monster might have headed south after a ‘mystery creature’ was reportedly seen moving through the River Thames.

In a video captured by a passenger on the Emirates Air Line, a dark object can be seen swirling through the river near The 02 Arena - leading conspiracy theorists to believe that Nessie might have abandoned her native highlands.

Perhaps more rationally, others believe that it could be a sperm whale that’s made its way upstream.

Of course, sperm whales aren’t native to the Thames either - but a young female whale was found swimming the river in 2006, and up to 50 whales and 450 porpoises and dolphins have been seen ever since.

The footage was initially posted on YouTube last friday by user Penn Plate, who wrote: ‘This was on the cable car in Greenwich yesterday. Something huge was moving under the water and then briefly surfaced. Are there whales in the Thames?? Or is it some weird submarine?'

But a voice of reason has since been offered by another commentor, who seemed to back up the possibility that it could be a porpoise.

She wrote: 'If you slow it down enough and pause it, kind of looks like a pod of dolphins or porpoises… but it’s way more exciting to think that it’s some crazy undiscovered ancient beast that’s probably going to crawl out of the river and start eating people and toppling buildings, so I’m gonna go with that.’
