NET Trams issues reopening update after crash at busy Nottingham junction
The operator of Nottingham's tram network has issued an update on when a busy junction will reopen after a crash. The collision, involving a tram and a van, has completely blocked off the Noel Street junction with Berridge Road in Forest Fields, while police are at the scene.
The tram has derailed and is in the process of being removed by maintenance workers, which is causing "significant travel disruption" for passengers. NET Trams said there is no service running between the Forest and Wilkinson Street stops in both directions due to the incident, which is reported to have happened at around 10.45am.
In an update issued at 12.40pm, the operator said there was "no timescale" for the reopening of the road. "The situation still remains the same due to a RTC on Beaconsfield St we currently have no service operating between The Forest and Wilkinson St in both directions," it posted on X.
"NCT Yellow line buses and EMT are accepting tram tickets and passes. Afraid we don't have time scales at present." Tramlink chief executive Andrew Conroy, who attended the scene said nobody on the tram was injured.
He said the damage to the tram, named after the late legendary BBC Radio Nottingham commentator Colin Slater, looks mainly cosmetic. NET workers are now trying to re-rail the tram using power from the overhead lines and the tram’s engine.
There is no damage to the track so it should be able to reopen once the tram is moved, Mr Conroy said. The Colin Slater tram will probably be out of action for a month or so while it is repaired.
