Via Deadline, Sandilands – who plays The Thinker in the Arrowverse – is onboard this one as General Steven Abbot, who leads a "post-apocalyptic army" with "intimidation and quirkiness".
Throughout the eight-part fantasy tale, Abbot uses the collapse of civilisation to reinvent himself and claim power.
For those unfamiliar with Sweet Tooth, the protagonist is a half-boy, half-deer named Gus (played by Christian Convery here) who leaves his forest home to discover that the rest of the world has been ripped apart by some sort of cataclysmic event.
The official synopsis states: "He joins a ragtag family of humans and animal-children hybrids like himself in search of answers about this new world and the mystery behind his hybrid origins."
Robert Downey Jr and his wife Susan are spearheading the adaptation alongside Arrow executive producer Beth Schwartz, which is based on the DC Vertigo comic of the same name, first created by Jeff Lemire 11 years ago.
Principal photography on the project is scheduled to go ahead on September 14 in New Zealand, after the production was granted border exemptions during the COVID-19 crisis, and will run through until mid-December.
Sweet Tooth's release date is yet to be confirmed, while Jeff Lemire's original comics are available now on Amazon.
