Ricky Gervais issued a tribute as he announced his pet dog in Netflix show, After Life, has died. The comedy star's character, Tony Johnson, was regularly accompanied by German Shepherd, Brandy, during scenes on the acclaimed programme.

The dog was played by German Shepherd, Vislor Antilly, throughout the show's three seasons. Ricky has taken to social media today to pay tribute after "Anti" died.

He said: "Sad News. 'Anti', who played 'Brandy' in AfterLife, has died. She was 13 and a very good girl." The dog's owners ran an Instagram page named Antilly the Wonder Hound, and Ricky also reshared a post from the account on his own profile.

It said: "Vislor Antilly, After Life's Brandy, has sadly passed away. We already miss her terribly. Sleep well xxx" Celebrity fans and followers took to the comments to issue tributes after the update.

Former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh shared a series of tearful emojis. A follower named Eric said: "Sorry for your loss. Beautiful dog."

Phil added: "I'm so sorry to hear that. She brought so much joy and love to the show." Gracie shared a heartbroken emoji with the comment: "Bless her."

A fan named Kendra said: "My heart is broken. She was perfection in After Life and now she has her much deserved wings. Rest in perfect peace beautiful soul"

In After Life, Tony's bond with his pet dog provided some of the most emotional scenes in the show. The programme was one of Netflix's most successful releases.

Earlier this month, Ricky revealed the show had been watched over 160 millions times. He shared a post from and After Life fan page announcing the news.

It said: "After Life is the most watched British comedy in the world, now with a total global viewership of 160 million. Astonishing." Ricky captioned the image: "Best fans in the world."
