A key component in the Netflix and Chill paradigm has always been classic episodes of The Office.

There's an Office episode for every situation. If you want to set a romantic mood, watch 'The Job'. If you want to impress your crush with your comedic chops, go with 'The Dundies'. If it's a cozy December evening, 'Benihana Christmas' will keep you both warm.

But what would happen if The Office were suddenly ripped from Netflix like a batch of rotten beets from Schrute Farms? That's a scenario that The Wall Street Journal reported was likely to happen earlier this week.

WSJ revealed that NBC was considering removing The Office, and possibly even other shows like Friends, from Netflix US to make them exclusive for its own streaming service in three years' time.

Now, the UK would seemingly be spared from Threat Level Midnight at least initially since the NBC streaming platform would be US-based, but it's certainly possible Universal could roll out a similar service globally in the years to come for its vast library of shows.

The good news is that Netflix has responded to the WSJ report by promising that The Office isn't going anywhere - at least for now.

"Hello it's me with your regularly scheduled reminder that The Office will be on Netflix until 2021 - at least," a tweet on the Netflix US Twitter account read on Wednesday (April 24).

Phew! We're off to watch 'Dinner Party' for the 430th time…
