New on Netflix in September 2020: From Ratched and Enola Holmes to Away, here's what's landing next month

Netflix has been at the top of its game for the last few months, being the home of unmissable drama, comedy and reality TV throughout lockdown.

And September is no different, with the streaming giant welcoming Robert Pattinson, Hilary Swank and Toni Colette among its ranks with its latest helping of original programming.

In addition to star-studded titles, a brand new instalment of beloved films, series and a whole heap of entertainment you may have missed the first time round is heading to the platform, too.

Here’s everything that’s hitting Netflix in September...

Tuesday, September 1

Borgen

The Danish political drama, first released on 2010, was a hit with audiences over here in the UK when it first aired on BBC Four.

From the makers of The Killing, Borgen (Danish for 'The Castle') follows Birgitte Nyborg Christensen, a little-known Centrist politician, on her journey to becoming the first female Prime Minister of Denmark.

Mr. Bean – The Animated Series

With the original live-action series, starring Rowan Atkinson, being such a beloved family favourite, Mr. Bean’s adventures have been refreshed with a new animated series.

Atkinson returns as Bean, and follows his adventures in his apartment with Teddy as he tries to avoid landlady Mrs Wicket and her naughty cat Scrapper.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians

After the first series landed on Netflix in June, fans have relived the #dramz of the Kardashians and fallen in love with the family all over again.

Granted, the adventures of America’s First Family of Reality TV are far more low-key compared to their more recent endeavours, but the low-budget look back at the Kardashians' early years almost makes the show twice as fun.

A Beautiful Mind

The classic biographical drama follows Russell Crowe as John Nash, the mathematician and Nobel Laureate in Economics who finds himself developing paranoid schizophrenia and endures severe delusional episodes.

The film is still just as powerful now as it was upon its first release in 2001.

Dinner for Schmucks

The 2010 hit sees Anchorman stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd team up once more for another zany comedy.

Tim (Rudd) is invited by his boss for dinner, with the employee who brings the biggest buffoon as their plus one receiving a career boost.

Tim is unsure, until he met Barry (Carell) a particularly eccentric man who builds dioramas using stuffed mice.

Felipe Esparza: Bad Decisions / Malas Decisiones (2020)

The Mexican-American comedian is back with a brand new stand-up show in both English and Spanish, which will likely focus on his hectic and unique lifestyle.

True: Friendship Day

The new series, aimed at nursery children, looks like fun for all the family. When a giant Grippity-Grab snags Grizelda’s friendship bracelet and turns her into a mermaid, True heads under the sea with magic wishes to save the day.

Thursday, September 3

Love, Guaranteed

Netflix is expanding its chick flick arsenal with romantic-comedy Love, Guaranteed.

Starring She’s All That’s Rachael Leigh Cook and New Girl actor Damon Wayans Jr, the film focuses on an earnest lawyer who takes on a new, charming client wishing to sue a dating site for failing to find him a perfect match. Naturally, litigation turns to love.

Young Wallander

The new series follows the younger version of the detective (Netflix)

The hotly-anticipated drama follows a younger version of the iconic Swedish detective first made famous by Kenneth Branagh.

The show will be a prequel to the original series, but also serves as a ‘modern reimagining' - so young Wallander will be very much operating in present-day Sweden.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things

Psychological horror I’m Thinking of Ending Things left viewers feeling chilled after the trailer was released last month.

Jessie Buckley stars as Cindy, a young woman taking a road trip with her new boyfriend to his family farm – where they end up trapped.

While locked in, Cindy starts to have second thoughts about her relationship as well as of the very nature of her existence. Toni Collette also stars.

Julie and the Phantoms

The upcoming musical series comes from High School Musical director Kenny Ortega.

Student Julie has found her passion for music numbed after her mother tragically died.

However, when she finds the ghosts of three young musicians in her mother’s recording studio, they decide to club together and start a new band – Julie and the Phantom.

Wednesday, September 16

The Devil All the Time

With its impressive ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Bill Skarsgard, Mia Wasikowska and Robert Pattinson, The Devil All the Time is likely to be the next must-see movie.

In Knockemstiff, Ohio and its neighbouring backwoods, sinister characters — an unholy preacher, twisted couple and crooked sheriff — converge around young Arvin Russell as he fights the evil forces that threaten him and his family.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous

The new series, set during the events of the events of Jurassic World follows six teenagers who become stranded on Isla Nublar after multiple dinosaurs escape their habitats, and they’re forced to joined forces to fight for their lives.

Sarah Paulson stars as the infamous Nurse Ratched in the prequel series of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest from the makers of American Horror Story.

For the first time, viewers will see how Ratched goes from a jaded and bitter nurse to a cruel and vindictive monster.
