In the latest season, our sartorial heroine Emily ignited an Italian romance and took a bold step by preparing to set up a new office in Rome for the French marketing firm Agence Grateau.
Darren was quick to assure devotees that despite the Italian escapade, the show's title remains unchanged, revealing: "Emily's going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn't mean she's not going to be in Paris, but she's going to have a presence in Rome."
Taking a fresh approach to the storyline, the creator divulged his strategy behind Emily's continental shift, aiming to "stay ahead of the audience and take them to unexpected places."
Last season of the hit series saw sparks fly between former lovers and teased new romantic prospects, with Lily Collins dazzling audiences as Emily Cooper.
Lily, who broke the news of Season 5 on Good Morning America, delved into her character's journey with new love interest Marcello (played by Eugenio Franceschini) in a chat with Tudum.
"Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance," she said.
"We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time."
Darren further revealed that the upcoming season will delve deeper into Emily's romance with Marcello, stating: "I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that's going to continue to play out next season."
