"A completely innovative take on the police procedural", this globetrotting hit officially brings season two to streaming on September 16.
Doctor Who's David Tennant and Agent Carter actress Hayley Atwell were the big names in season one, but guest stars tangled up in the fresh cases are yet to be announced. Members of the regular cast are well acquainted with police drama and suspense, with Line of Duty's Rochenda Sandall and Cheat's Katherine Kelly both set to return.
If creator and director Jim Field Smith's words concerning the debut season are anything to go by, season two should feature some stellar talent too.
"We were able to attract the right talent here not just because of the strength of the scripts, but because these opportunities don't come along very often," he explained to Digital Spy.
"As filmmakers, as actors, you're in a really intense setting, not bouncing around all over the place. I think that's why the actors enjoyed the experience of making it, because it's as close to a pure acting experience as you get. Normally on a TV drama you're breaking across multiple days – this was closest to a theatrical play experience."
Writer George Kay also shared: "Performance is so important, that's why we've been able to get a good cast across all four of the countries [UK, Spain, France, and Germany] because, bluntly, it's a chance to act in front of a global audience, close up for 40 minutes, and that's quite a rare thing."
Criminal season two hits Netflix on September 16.
