Netflix star admits being 'put through the wringer' in 'stressful' audition

Actor Leo Woodall stole the nation's heart last year by playing Dexter in Netflix's show One Day. The popular series follows the lives of two friends, Dexter and Em, and their complicated relationship over the years.

Although their lives go in different directions after graduation night, they remain intertwined. One Day had viewers laughing, crying, and, at times, even shouting at the screen in frustration.

However, the series became extremely popular across the globe, with tours in Edinburgh now taking people to certain filming locations seen in the 14-part series.

Speaking about getting the role on Wednesday's This Morning, actor Leo Woodall confessed to presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley that the process wasn't straightforward.

Highlighting the lengthy audition process, Cat probed: "Five auditions! They put you through the wringer, didn't they? What was the last one like?"

He confessed: "The last one was the worst because I didn't realise I'd walk into this little room. The director, four producers, the casting director and the showrunner, I had to do some of the worst bits, in that room. So, it was very stressful!"

However, when asked about his audition process for the upcoming Bridget Jones' Diary, Leo shared: "They didn't put me through the wringer as much, thankfully!"

During the chat, Leo confessed he still had the tattoo on his neck from a previous role in White Lotus when applying for Dexter.

He revealed: "The first time I walked into the room, I just forgotten that I had it on! They (the producers) decided that they liked me, but when they saw the tattoo, they thought, 'Oh, this is going to be a problem'.

"Luckily, while I was acting in the room, I was doing this (rubbing his neck), and it started to come off!"

Despite the lengthy process of getting the role, Leo is thrilled with the show's reception from fans.

He added: "It's one of those things that I am incredibly proud of. It was a wonderful thing to be part of something that people enjoy and lots of people see.

"But, I didn't realise how touched people would be. I've met some people now who have told me how much it meant to them. I've never experienced that before, so that was special."

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am with One Day available to watch on Netflix
