'I never win anything' says man, 85, who scoops £159,000 Porsche in BOTB competition
A man who claims to "never win anything" has won a turbo-charged Porsche 911. George Beale from Coalville scooped a prize bundle worth about £180,000 in total as part of the latest BOTB Dream Car Competition.
George has been a regular player of the BOTB competition, but had yet to win big on the weekly draw. That all changed when the 85-year-old won the Porsche car worth £159,000 as well as a £20,000 cash prize in the sport car's boot too.
Speaking of his shock, George said: “Things like this generally don’t happen to me and I never win anything. I’ve been playing with BOTB for 10 years or more, and you always think someone else will win."

The timing could not have been better as George, who works for an auctioneers, had been thinking of buying a Porsche as well. He said: “I’ve always liked Porsches. I’ve got a couple of classic cars now and what’s funny is that the other day I was driving my old MG and thought to myself, 'Do I really want to be driving old cars for the rest of my life, or should I go for something more modern like a Porsche?'
“This has saved me having to buy one myself now. It’s a very special car. I think it will get me to A and B pretty quickly.”
The car was delivered to George by BOTB's Christian Williams, who took opened the boot to show George all the cash inside. George said: “That’s very handy." He said he was undecided on what he was going to do with the cash.
Christian said: “It was fantastic to be able to surprise George with this huge prize. Having always loved Porsches, you could see how delighted he was with his win, especially as he was considering buying one himself.
“This car is like a rocketship, and it sounds like he can’t wait to hit the road in it. I’m sure he’s going to have a lot of fun driving it around.”
The Porsche 911 features an i4 Turbo engine, 416 bhp and top speed of 168mph. Since BOTB (Best of the Best) was founded in 1999, it has given away £78 million worth of cars and across all its competitions had more than 3.6 million winners.
