Yahoo News The new 'Charmed' cast is fighting back against criticism
Any reboot faces an uphill battle, but the three new sisters of the upcoming Charmed show are fighting backlash with an upbeat attitude.
“We look for the positive in [the backlash],” Madeleine Mantock (Macy Vaughn) tells Yahoo Entertainment at San Diego Comic-Con. “I understand some people have been upset and unsure and a little bit suspicious of what we might be doing to their beloved series,” she says. “But on the other side, there are so many people who have been open to it.”
Melonie Diaz (Mel Vera) responded directly to the doubters, saying, “I think you’d be pleasantly surprised, and it’d be an honor to have you be a part of the fam.”
Sarah Jeffery (Maggie Vera) — who responded to the negativity back in May — concedes that the original Charmed was significant to a certain generation but says their show isn’t trying to erase a formative moment for anyone.
“We’re not trying to take that from anybody,” Jeffery says. “We’re just trying to create something a little different. We hope that they watch.” Jeffery went on to note that original cast member Rose McGowan urged them to “fly” in a tweet.
Earlier this year, news of the reboot received mixed reviews from some other members of the original cast. Holly Marie Combs initially knocked it, but later clarified her statements, saying, “I hope the new show is far better than the marketing so the true legacy does remain.”
Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.

In January, Shannon Doherty, who also starred in the original series, wished the new cast well, tweeting, “I hope they respect the original.”

The new version of Charmed is scheduled to premiere on the CW on Oct. 14 at 8 p.m.
