Newborn baby dies after body found dumped in Amazon warehouse

The abandoned body of a newborn baby has been found inside a bin at an Amazon warehouse.

The baby was treated by emergency workers but was said to be 'beyond resuscitation'.

Officials later confirmed the baby had died.

The baby had been found inside a bin in a women's toilet, officials said.

The incident happened in Phoenix, Arizona and the discovery of the newborn was made on Wednesday evening.

Pictures from the scene posted on social media showed a yellow cordon tape had been installed surrounding the depot with officers stationed outside.

The cause of the death has yet to be determined, said the authorities.

'This is a terribly sad and tragic incident', a spokesperson for Amazon said.

'We are working with local authorities to support their investigation. The safety and wellness of our team is our top priority.'

Police said the Amazon warehouse remained in operation despite the incident.

Arizona has legislation known as the Safe Haven Law, which allows for the safe hand-off of babies up to three days old.

Some hospitals even have special drawers to leave babies without having to speak with anyone.

According to the state's Safe Haven site: 'You can leave your baby, up to 3 days old, with an on duty staff member at any hospital, emergency medical service provider, fire station or with any licensed private child welfare agency, licensed adoption agency or any church in Arizona.'
