Newborn Puppy Rescued From Arizona Drainpipe After Whimpering Heard

Firefighters came to the rescue in Mesa, Arizona, on November 16 after a passerby heard the whimpering of a newborn puppy coming from inside a culvert, the Mesa Fire and Medical Department said.

This video shows the crew of Engine 201-B using a long pole to reach the puppy and gently pull it out of the pipe.

The firefighters immediately hand the puppy to the passerby, who the fire department said adopted the young dog and three of its siblings, who were found nearby.

Deputy Chief Forrest Smith told Storyful the puppy’s mother appeared to have given birth inside the pipe and then died nearby. The puppies were “hours to days old,” Smith said. Credit: Mesa Fire and Medical Department via Storyful
