The investigation into an assault and robbery in Newcastle city centre has seen police release an image of a man that they would like to trace.

At 11.40pm on Friday, December 6, Northumbria Police received a report of a disturbance outside of Sgt Peppers Disco Bar on Vine Street.

A man reportedly approached a group of people, previously unknown to him, outside of the bar, and punched one man, leaving the victim on the ground with a serious head injury. The instigator then went on to punch another man, with this victim sustaining a serious arm injury.

Then, the offender went on to punch a woman in the group, before stealing her phone and making off on foot towards John Dobson Street. The woman was reported to have not sustained any serious injuries in the incident, but she was left shaken.

An investigation was launched by Northumbria Police, with a number of enquiries into the incident being carried out. Officers have now released an image of a man that they would like to trace, as he was in the area at the time of the incident, and may have information that could assist with inquiries.

The man, or anyone who knows him, should send Northumbria Police a direct message on social media, or use the live chat function on the Northumbria Police website. For those unable to contact police in these ways, call 101, quoting this log number: NP-20241206-1259.
