Newcastle Gateshead Quayside runs announce 2025 dates with £5 entry open now
Many of us may well be feeling lethargic at this time of year, due to darkening nights and chilly weather that make us more inclined to cosy up indoors.
But news of the return of popular running events in the spring could well prove a much-needed boost and give us something to aim for. The RunThrough events company has announced the return of a 5k and junior 3k to Newcastle Gateshead Quayside for 2025 plus an under-11s one-kilometre run - and all are open for entry now, with fees from just £5 to ensure that as many as possible can afford to take part.
The company, said to be the UK and Europe’s fastest growing for running events, is planning the events for April 23. It has teamed up with with Gateshead Harriers on the main run, described as one the region’s most competitive and scenic 5k races, and this will be split into two heats: an 'A-Race' for seasoned runners aiming to finish the 5k in under 20 minutes and a B-Race with a fast out-and-back course aiming to suit runners looking to set personal bests.

The Junior Quayside 3k will cater for under-13s, under-15s and under-17s while the new 1k will enable under-11s to join in the action too. A spokesman said: "Designed to introduce kids to running in a fun, supportive environment, this 1k course offers the perfect entry-level challenge.
"Young participants will experience the thrill of race day along Newcastle-Gateshead's scenic Quayside, with plenty of encouragement along the route. This addition reflects RunThrough's commitment to fostering a love for running from an early age, creating memorable experiences for budding young athletes."
The focus is upon inclusivity and talent development so the company offers reduced entry costs, with fees for the junior 3k and under-11s runs being £5 and free 'elite junior entry' available for qualifying athletes. The standard entry cost for the 5k is £22 and there are entry options to include T-shirts too.
To provide more encouragement for some top-tier performances there is also a £1,000 prize fund. The scenic riverside runs will take in views of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and Tyne Bridge and the finishing stretch will lead to Baltic Square: to sign up to take part in any of the April 23 events see here.
