Newcastle handed Marc Guehi transfer green light after Crystal Palace decision
Crystal Palace have reportedly agreed a fee with Wolfsburg for defender Maxence Lacroix amid uncertainty over Marc Guehi's future.
Despite seeing a series of bids rejected by Palace for Guehi, Newcastle remain determined to get a deal over the line for the defender. Chronicle Live understands that discussions are still active with the Eagles and the door is not completely closed on the deal.
The England centre-back, who could cost over £70million, is thought to be open to an exit despite being appointed as Palace's captain for the season. Wages would never been an issue for neither Newcastle or Guehi.

The Athletic report the Londoners have already planned for life post-Guehi, having agreed a an initial £15.2m fee for Lacroix, and a potential £2.5m in add-ons. Following their Carabao Cup second-round win over Norwich City, the Palace boss Oliver Glasner was asked his thoughts on Guehi's wave to supporters at Selhurst Park.
"Nice try!," he said. "You know that I am 50 tomorrow and I think I have one wish, and that is that I don't have to answer questions about the transfer window so you can decide if you give me a gift or not."
The door remains wide open for Newcastle to complete the deal but they have just until Friday's transfer deadline of 11pm.
Palace have already allowed first-choice Joachim Andersen to depart this summer, having re-joined Fulham last week for a fee worth up to £30m including add-ons.
Chadi Riad, who returned from a loan with Real Betis last season, sustained an injury just 10 minutes into their game with Norwich on Tuesday.
