Newcastle 'invest significantly' in new stadium upgrades with huge expansion update to come

Newcastle United have not yet reached any 'conclusions' on the future of St James' Park - but the final report on the club's stadium feasibility study is likely to be completed this summer.

That is according to CEO Darren Eales, who was among those senior figures who met with the fan advisory board (FAB) at St James' last month. The hierarchy would ideally like to stay put and have tasked world-leading architects to look at what could be possible on the complicated city centre site as the club attempt to boost match day revenues. A summary of the report will eventually be presented to the FAB following 'receipt and discussion' by the club and the owners.

“We haven’t had the final report on the feasibility study," Eales said in the minutes of the latest FAB meeting. "After the club and its owners receive the report and discuss it, the fan advisory board will be the first group we consult. At this time, no results have been received and no conclusions have been reached."

Newcastle have made improvements to the stadium in the meantime, however. Sarah Medcalf, who is the head of supporter services, confirmed that the club have upgraded their PA system with new speakers in several areas of St James'. Newcastle have also committed to 'investing significantly' in improved 5G connectivity and this will be installed next season.

Newcastle are currently working with an external agency to explore how fans' experience could be improved further, which will be brought to the FAB for consultation. The club previously held a supporter workshop on match day atmosphere back in March to 'help shape further enhancements that reflect the needs of supporters'. Those in attendance were invited to deliver feedback and propose ideas to be considered by the fan advisory board and the club.
