Newcastle restaurants signed up as North East's newest Stack set to open before Christmas
After the huge success of St James' STACK in Newcastle this year, which saw huge crowds of people flocking to its opening weekend back in August, a brand new STACK will soon open in the North East. And there'll be a real Tyneside flavour to proceedings, as a host of popular restaurants from the city are involved.
Two years after the original STACK shut down on Pilgrim Street city centre, St James' STACK, brought to Newcastle in partnership with United kit sponsors Sela, opened its doors in early August, with the new development, right in the shadow of St James' Park, having a real Geordie feel to it, with themed bars, cocktail menus and even toilets. Since it opened, St James' STACK has been packed out every single weekend, as revellers enjoy live sporting action and live entertainment and, with work now underway on another STACK in Newcastle, another location in the North East will soon welcome its first.
STACK Middlesbrough, being built where the A66 flyover meets Exchange Square, is set to open next month and will be home to a few familiar faces from already successful STACKs in the region. Greek cuisine legends Acropolis, who created the Geordie Gyros earlier this year, will be adding another string to their bow by open in the new STACK, as will Newcastle burger icons Brack Burger, who are already residents of both St James' STACK and STACK in Seaburn and Bao Down, who have also gone down a treat at both. They will also be joined by fellow STACK favourites Zza Pizza and Holy Duck.

Excited to move into their new premises in the Boro, Filip Tachan of Acropolis said: "It’s a great place and we have loved meeting so many people over the past few years, so when the opportunity to be part of STACK Middlesbrough came up, we didn’t hesitate.
His words are echoed by Alex Hindson who runs Bao Down, which offers a range of filled bao buns, gyozas, katsu curries and loaded fries, who has also been a regular at Orange Pip Market and was originally from Newton Aycliffe.
“When I was younger we’d always come to Middlesbrough for a night out and it’s always had a fantastic music and street food scene,” he said. It absolutely suits STACK down to the ground and I’m very excited for it opening. We’re going to be in a great location with a really urban feel and I can’t wait.”
