Newcastle United announce double 'best in class' PSR move inspired by Borussia Dortmund
Newcastle United commercial supremo Peter Silverstone has pledged a "best in class" club shop experience ahead of the two key dates for the calendar in 2024.
With Newcastle eager to succeed in the world of PSR, United are already planning to open a new refurbished club shop at the Gallowgate End imminently before October is out. And a second club store will open for business next month at the Metro Centre.
Toon chiefs have made it clear previously that the more they earn off the pitch, the more they can spend on it. The club shops drifted into a state of disrepair under Mike Ashley before he allowed Castore to take over the stores in 2021.

Announcing the new Metrocentre store, Newcastle United’s chief commercial officer Peter Silverstone said: "Our ambition is to bring Newcastle United supporters even closer to the club through a best-in-class retail experience.
"Opening a new Metrocentre store is the next step in that journey. It re-introduces the club to an iconic and much-loved shopping destination, and positions our retail offering alongside other leading international brands.
"We have a very exciting period ahead, including the launch of our new flagship store at St. James’ Park, followed quickly by our new store opening in a prime location at Metrocentre.
"We look forward to uniting even more supporters with the Newcastle United products both in the build-up to the Christmas period and into the future."
Silverstone has told fans in recent forums that the club are keen to emulate German giants Borussia Dortmund when it comes to retail. Silverstone said previously: "If you look at the main club store at Borussia Dortmund, it’s incredible the amount of different products that are available. Let’s say our fans want Newcastle United garden hoses.
"Well, we can get that feedback directly from them now, and then try to find that product. So, being in-house like that is real step change for us. But then once you decide that, it’s about how you build it."
United will open the doors to a new club retail store at Metrocentre in November, with construction work already underway at the iconic shopping and entertainment destination.
The Magpies’ new retail experience will open on the upper level of Metrocentre’s Town Square, giving visitors access to a wide range of official adidas kits, training wear, clothing collections and exclusive club-branded items.
The new Metrocentre location will be the club’s second physical store opening in quick succession, following the planned opening of a flagship store at St. James’ Park later in October.
The club’s global ecommerce platform, shop.newcastleunited.com, was also successfully launched in the summer.
The official Newcastle United store at Metrocentre, located on the upper level of Town Square, will be open seven days a week, from 9am-9pm Monday to Friday, 9pm-7pm on Saturdays, and 11am-5pm on Sundays.
