Newcastle United discover pathway to Carabao Cup quarter-finals after round four draw
Newcastle United will face a tough draw if they get past Wimbledon in round three of the Carabao Cup - after landing a potential home tie against Chelsea.
The draw was made by former Liverpool and England international star Jamie Redknapp and ex-Newcastle skipper Kevin Nolan. Redknapp pulled out Newcastle or the Dons before Nolan plucked out the Blues. It sets up another Carabao Cup encounter between Newcastle and Chelsea with the two teams squaring up in the quarter-finals last term on a difficult evening in the capital.
That night Newcastle drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge before losing on penalties as Kieran Trippier and Matt Ritchie missed from the spot.

Speaking about the importance of the Carabao Cup, Eddie Howe has told Chronicle Live: "It is a competition we want to do well in. But we want to build momentum in our season. First and foremost we want to produce a really good performance. So we know the onus is on us to deliver in this game."
Newcastle at least avoided tougher clashes against Man City, holders Liverpool or Arsenal and have the two London clubs standing in their way between now and the last eight. The Magpies take on Wimbledon on October 1 next Tuesday at St James' Park.
