Newcastle United injuries and suspensions in full after Willock update and Tonali retun

Newcastle United will be missing several first-team players for this weekend's Premier League clash with Tottenham - with Eddie Howe getting no help in the transfer window when it came to late signings.

The Magpies boss has largely the same squad available to him as he has had for the firsr three games of the new season, with one or two changes from the group which faced Nottingham Forest in midweek. Sandro Tonali is back for his first Premier League game since last October, but Joe Willock will miss the Spurs match with a thigh injury.

However, Martin Dubravka should be fit to take his place on the bench, while Howe has no new injury concerns to contend with. Here's the latest injury news ahead of the big game.

Joe Willock

The former Arsenal midfielder's dreadful luck with injuries continued as he picked up a thigh problem against Nottingham Forest just minutes after opening the scoring. Initial scans have suggested it's not as bad as first feared but he will miss this weekend at the very least.

Expected return: Late September

Sven Botman

The Dutch defender is making good progress after a double ACL injury required an operation last March. He is expected to miss much of ther first half of the season, with a scheduled return around Christmas. However, he recently posted a positive update as he took his first steps towards training outside of the gym.

Expected return: December

Callium Wilson

The United No 9 had another frustrating season with injury but returned to show his value to the squad late on, However, he picked up a back injury in pre-season which will rule him out this weekend. Howe gave an update on the striker, saying: "Callum will miss the first few games of the season. He’s making really good progress. He really feels good and wants to push a bit faster, but we’re just trying to manage him."

Expected return: Wolves away, September 15

Lewis Miley

Miley enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season, but his summer preparations were cut short when he suffered an injury to his metatarsal in July, ruling him out of the pre-season schedule. The injury is likely to keep him out for around 12 weeks.

Expected return: October

Jamaal Lascelles

Newcastle's club captain Lascelles suffered a knee injury against West Ham last March, with the defender back in the gym and pictured with the squad during pre-season. He hopes to be back earlier than the expected nine-month recovery period, but like Botman, could miss most of 2024.

Expected return: November/December

Fabian Schar

The Swiss defender will serve the final game of his three-match ban after being sent off against Southampton on the opening day. He will return to the squad when United face Wolves after the international break.

Expected return: Wolves away, September 15

Martin Dubravka

The experienced goalkeeper missed the Premier League game at Bournemouth due to concussion protocols after picking up a knock in training. He was also absent at Forest in midweek, but is expected to be able to take his place on the bench against Spurs.
