Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer 'up for' ITV's I'm A Celebrity despite major phobias
Alan Shearer has revealed he would be 'up for' a stint in the I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, even though he is terrified of heights and spiders.
Football players are no stranger to the ITV show, with the likes of Ian Wright, Kieron Dyer and Wayne Bridge all going into the Australian jungle over the years and ex West Ham manager Harry Redknapp being crowned King of the Jungle in 2018. And now, Newcastle United legend has admitted that he wouldn't turn down the opportunity to follow in their footsteps and join fellow Geordies Ant and Dec Down Under.
Appearing on the latest episode of his The Rest is Football podcast Alan and his co-hosts Gary Lineker and Micah Richards were asked by a listener, if they had to go on a reality TV competition which one would they choose, to which Alan replied: "Probably the jungle one, no way I'd do the Dancing!"

Alan's response saw him backtrack from just a few seconds earlier, when he admitted to Gary and Micah: "Not sure I could do the jungle. Don't like heights, don't like spiders...but apart that I'd be alright." Having a dig at his expense, soon to be ex Match of the Day presenter Gary retorted: "You big Newcastle hard man; afraid of tiny little spiders!"
If he does end up doing I'm A Celebrity, Alan could ask for a few tips from his ex Newcastle United teammate David Ginola. The England striker and French winger played together during the side's famous Entertainers era of the late 90s, with David ending up going on I'm A Celeb, for its second stint in Wales at the end of 2021.
Having been a one time favourite to win that series, David ended up missing out on a place in the final, as Emmerdale actor Danny Miller went onto win. Last year's show was won in December by McFly star Danny Jones, although there was a football connection in the final, with Wayne Rooney's wife Coleen finishing in second.
