Manchester City have the chance to, at least temporarily, extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table as they travel to Newcastle this afternoon.

In a week in which they have already dismantled Leeds United, the idea of a City attack facing up against the Premier League’s worst defence should strike fear into the hearts of those trying to catch them atop the league.

While Eddie Howe’s side gave a reasonably promising account of themselves at Liverpool on Thursday night, no team in England’s elite tier have conceded as many as them this season, with 37 in 17 outings running at a rate of over 2 goals per game.

City, even in the absence of a star central striker, trail only Liverpool in the number of goals scored thus far and have generally made light work of such games in recent weeks. For the second time in two years, Guardiola is taking the Premier League by storm without a fixed-point forward.

Date, kick-off time and venue

The Premier League game is scheduled for a 2pm (moved from 2.15pm) GMT kick-off time today, Sunday December 19, 2021.

St James’ Park in Newcastle will host.

City, meanwhile, will have Guardiola in the dugout after he was cleared to travel.
