A theatre in Newcastle city centre is set to play host to an evening celebrating local talent that will be packed full of unique performances.

Lasses at Live will land at Live Theatre on Thursday, August 29, for a night of cabaret, a choir performance and a community meal. Initially held at Alphabetti Theatre, the event is all about getting together and having fun in a safe space while offering North East actors, poets and singers the chance to flex their creative muscles on stage.

The evening will begin at 6pm with a performance from the local Girls, Theys and Slays choir led by Maya Torres. Guests can then sit down to a free community meal at 6.45pm, with visitors encouraged to bring any dishes they would like to add to the spread.

The final act of the night will be a mixed bill of cabaret performances at 7.30pm, featuring Wambui Hardcastle, Hannah Walker, Lucy Doig and Jemma Martin. Audiences can look forward to a "no rules" show with everything from singing and dancing to poetry and comedy, under the theme of 'kicking ass and being bold as brass'.

Organiser Rosie Bowden said of the event: "At Alphabetti it went down a treat - the vibes were really warm and welcoming, and the audience was left smiling. I just want people to come away with a real sense of coming together, which is something we do so rarely now.

"What's really nice about Lasses is that people just chat to each other in the audience, and have meaningful conversations that come from seeing the show together. So I want everyone to experience that community feel," Rosie added.

Tickets are available for Lasses at Live on the Live Theatre website on a pay what you feel basis for the choir, and are priced at £6 for the cabaret show.
