Newcastle's 'Super Spoons' pub to be taken over as Wetherspoons The Game comes to town

Its the game that has taken the UK by storm and get ready to secure your table as Wetherspoons The Game is arriving in Newcastle this weekend, with its founder making his first ever visit to Tyneside to do the honours and with the aim of providing food to a well deserving cause.

We've all seen posts on Facebook of our mates on a day sesh or night out in their local Spoons or on a trip away, putting their table number on for the world to see, in the hope of having a few drinks sent to their table. More often that not, while people who spot the posts are generous with the bevs, the table in question can also lead to a wide range of items from the Spoons menu, like garden peas, glasses of milk etc also delivered to them.

And now, the very man who kicked it all off and started the Wetherspoon: The Game group on Facebook, Chris Illman, is making the trek from the south coast to the North East, for the viral game's Newcastle debut, to play it for charity, as he does on the first Sunday of every month. And he's chosen the perfect place to do it, in the form of the city's own Super Spoons, The Mile Castle.

The hugely popular Westgate Road boozer underwent a huge transformation last year, with its multi million makeover seeing work done to each of its three floors, ahead of the opening of Newcastle's first ever Wetherspoons hotel, as part of the same development.

Newcastle is the most northerly location for the Wetherspoons game so far, with it already going down a storm in the likes of Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester. The aim of The Game, as well as being a lot of fun, is to donate plenty of food to homeless people in each city it visits.

Chris is planning to post a call out in the Facebook group at 6pm this Sunday, February 2, with instructions on where he and his team are and how you can order the burger.

Explaining how it will work from there, Chris added: "And then people order it through the app, it comes to us in takeaway boxes or bags and then local charities collect it. The meal consists of a burger, drink and a soft drink. It is always a soft drink included."

The food is then picked up by a local charity or non-profit organization, and Chris reached out to Newcastle Helping Street Friends about collecting the food that will be donated this weekend.
