An opening date for Exeter's newest pub has finally been set and there's not long left to wait. Punters will soon be welcomed back after the venue stood empty for almost a year.

Samit and Neil Ghosh are almost ready to welcome their first customers through the door of Fifty Point Seven on New North Road in Exeter. After a turbulent few years and then standing empty for a year, the pub has now been rebranded and given a facelift.

Last week, Victoria Inns, who own the city centre haunt, announced that it had finally been taken over by the father and son duo. Describing it as "a well known asset of community value", the pub company said the pair were hoping to "provide an attractive offer".

The pub has undergone several name changes in recent years, best-known to many as The Oddfellows Arms, which was run by Yvan and Faye Williams for 15 years. In 2021, the couple decided to move on and focus on their bar events business, which will soon be hosting two bars at the Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market.

The Oddfellows was taken over by new management in March 2022, who initially announced it would be renamed to 1685, before changing it to The Last Drop. Despite various announcements, The Last Drop never opened and it was put on the market for £525,000 in September 2022.

In October 2022, the owner of Coolings on Gandy Street, reopened the pub as The Nest. Just four weeks later, they took "the really difficult decision" to close after bills skyrocketed as the cost of living crisis took hold. Freehold of the pub was subsequently put on the market for £475,000 by business agents Christie & Co.

The new name Fifty point Seven is inspired by the latitude of Exeter, with the pub's tag line being "Hospitality with latitude". They have already teased a food menu, which includes a wide range of comfort food small plates, BBQ and jambalaya sharing boards, burgers, pizzas and desserts, as well all English breakfasts and roasts on Sundays.

Fifty point Seven opens on Saturday, November 18 and can be found at 60 New North Road, Exeter, EX4 4EP.
