Newly Released Footage Shows Moments After Shooting on Set of 'Rust'

New Mexico authorities released extensive video from the hours and days following the fatal shooting on the set of the film ‘Rust’ in October 2021.

Bodycam footage, interviews, set video, photos, and written reports released by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office detail the alleged accidental shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on October 21, 2021.

The hours of footage made public by police include footage of emergency responders aiding the victims and initial conversations with actor Alec Baldwin, still in costume, who fired the fatal shot.

Additional footage shows a preliminary interview at the hospital with Souza, who says he saw blood coming out of Hutchins’s back, recounting to Deputy Lujan, “I think it went through her and into me.”

He then asked, “Do you know anything about what’s going on with her? Is she okay?”

Hutchins’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the production, naming Baldwin in the suit, attorneys for the family said. Baldwin has not been charged. Credit: Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office via Storyful

- I'm so scared.

- You're all right, just relax.

- [SOBBING] So here's the box that I got them out of.

- OK, leave them right there. Leave them right there, OK? Relax. I just need you to--

- I'm sorry.

- I just need you to relax. Just relax, OK?

[SOBBING]

- I just need you to relax. Just please relax, OK? Just take deep breaths and relax. Can somebody get water for her?

- No. No, the helicopter's here for her. Yeah, the helicopter's here for her.

- Is she fucking-- Where the fuck are these entry wounds-- is she OK? Can somebody tell me anything, please?

- I don't know anything. I just-- right now, I don't know. I'm just trying to secure everything. OK? So I need to know, before I start getting information. She's the armorer. Who are you?

- I'm the production designer.

- OK, thank you. And you?

- I'm the [INAUDIBLE] manager.

- OK, thank you.

- Yep.

- I won't remember your names, I'm sorry.

- You're fine, you're fine.

- And somebody get him water.

- Yeah, I need to--

- Oh my God. [INAUDIBLE] absolute worst nightmare.

- Hi, my name is Shannon Hughes.

- Hi.

- My husband and I own the ranch.

- OK, my name's Tim.

- Nice to meet you.

- OK, so. Um.

- They should be insured for this.

- Yes. I mean, I'm not worried about the insurance, I'm worried about her life.

- Oh, absolutely.

- OK, so.

- That's what I'm saying. No movie's worth this.

- That's [INAUDIBLE] when it happened?

- No!

- No.

- What can I do to help you?

- We are bringing a whole lot of units here, because there's a whole lot of people here.

- Yes, we're trying to clear them out.

- No. Nobody's getting cleared out. Everybody is staying where they're at.

- OK.

- OK? We're trying-- that's what's so difficult. We're trying to hold everybody where they're at.

- OK.

- OK, what I'm going to have you do is sit in here, OK?

- Am I arrested?

- You're not arrested. The door is going to stay open. Since you're the armorer, they're going to want to talk to you more than anybody, OK?

- [SOBBING] Can I please have that water?

- Yes.

- Oh my God.

- Just relax, OK? I'm just trying to-- there's a whole lot of people here, so I'm trying to secure everybody.

- Do you want me to sit with you?

- You can stay right here with her.

- I will stay right here with you. I will not go anywhere.

- You can leave that door open. You don't have to do anything, OK?

- [SOBBING]

- Hey! To the med! [INAUDIBLE]. If I could have a unit head to Saint B's-- we got one shot in the shoulder. That one's going the Saint B's. The helo just landed and they are trying to get that other 41 stable. So if I could have somebody go to Saint-- uh, Saint B's and-- with this other subject.

- (ON RADIO) [INAUDIBLE] Saint B's made a mess.

- Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am.

- Bring the radio and the truck down.

- No, not at all, I'm sorry.

- (ON RADIO) Just so you know, [INAUDIBLE].

- I didn't even stop to think.

- No, it's all right.

- (ON RADIO) Sixty-eight, under.

- They got people there. Alec Baldwin, the actor, he's the one who pulled the trigger on the [INAUDIBLE].

- Yeah, he's going to have to sit tight.

- I have the armorer in here. This is all their stuff, I have no [INAUDIBLE] in there. And I got the two people that were in the room.

- OK.

- You have Alec Baldwin [INAUDIBLE]?

- No. We know where he's at, we know who he is. We just need to stay-- is he in a trailer?

- In the gray-black one.

- OK. All right, so try to keep him away from everybody, not to talk to anybody.

- OK, [INAUDIBLE] in my unit?

- That's fine. Even if they have a production car, if you get all the director-- get a production car-- is it? Sorry, I didn't--

- No, no, no. I'm just trying to-- I'm here for you, man.

- Yeah, I'm just trying to--

- Let me know how I can help you.

- Yeah. OK.

- Brian! Hey, so-- I have my [INAUDIBLE]. Alec Baldwin? He's the one who pulled the trigger. I have the-- I have the weapon, I have the ammo, and I have the armorer. Pretty much, they don't touch it until the armorer gives it to them. And the director was going over the shot, going over what was going to happen in the set, and she got shot in the chest. That's what it sounds-- I don't know.

- (ON RADIO) That's a lot of money [INAUDIBLE].

- --secure, but there's like 200 people here. There was four-- there was four people in the room-- there was four people in the room--

- (ON RADIO) [INAUDIBLE]

- And two of them were shot. OK? Two shot. One-- [INAUDIBLE] in the chest. The other male shot in the shoulder. Would you not-- right now, would you not-- everything is is still [INAUDIBLE]. No names right now. But it is a-- I'll let you know, it is high-profile. With Alec Baldwin, [INAUDIBLE]. All right. Bye.

- (ON RADIO) [INAUDIBLE] but that's [INAUDIBLE].

- Did you want to talk to me, sir? Sir.

- Alex isn't-- he's going to smoke a cigarette, then he'll sit in his own car. That's his vehicle

- Alec Baldwin?

- Yes, sir.

- OK, thank you. I'm good, thanks. I just drank a Red Bull right beforehand, I'm all hyped up. Sorry.

- (ON RADIO) We're standing by at the entrance of Bonanza Creek, the single road at the end of this coming out.

- OK.

- I'm going to standby, so if you need to--

- Yes, please

[SOBBING]

- You doing OK? - No! [SOBBING] [INAUDIBLE]

- (ON RADIO) Six-five, start rolling towards each direction until we hear from him.

- Lieutenant! Lieutenant!

- (ON RADIO) Ten-four

- Excited [INAUDIBLE]. Oh, I thought you were the Lieutenant. I need somebody to check that 41, the armorer, she's having a panic attack. I need somebody to check for her.

- OK.

- OK?

- The armorer?

- Yeah, she's the armorer, she's hyperventilating, she's having--

- Hey, Dan! Can you grab your bag?

- [INAUDIBLE] that guy. He was here. Can I come back in?

- What's up?

- I've got to go get that guy over there and bring him back here, so--

- Where is he?

- He's right there, next the guy with the cowboy hat. He's wearing the black.

- The one on the right? I'll go get him.

- Would you?

- OK, yes sir.

- Thanks, brother.

- Thank you-- thank you for helping. You guys security?

- [INAUDIBLE]

- You need security? Is that what you're saying?

[INTERPOSING VOICES]

- --one security guard--

- That's it? OK. All right.

- The gentleman is-- G!

- Hey, Doc, in my unit-- it's the girl in the middle. Sir, you were in the--

- Yes.

- OK, I need you just to head that way for me, please. Thank you. OK, nobody else enters.

- We were told by the producers.

- OK, hold on. All right, let me see who you guys are. I don't want too many people here. OK, hold on. What's up?

- I don't have any additional security guards. I got one I've got to keep at the gate. I've got my two guys right here, you can post them wherever you want.

- OK, thank you. I'll figure that out. Let me go see what's going on with these guys and I'll be right back.

- These guys are standing by.

- Yeah, thank you. Oh, OK. You OK? Yes, ma'am. Where's that lady that was in charge?

- Me. [INAUDIBLE] for that.

- I need you guys [INAUDIBLE].

- This is Reed, one of our camera operators. He was in the room.

- OK. Come here, sir. How's it going? My name's Lieutenant Benavidez.

- Can I go to the hospital?

- Not yet.

- OK.

- Not yet. So Corporal, we've got a camera operator who was in the room. OK?

- Perfect.

- OK, it's just hard. We can't let all people in and out. So if you can-- I'm going to try to get over here. Yeah.

- (ON RADIO) [INAUDIBLE]

- OK, I'm trying to find the-- the director, whoever directed us, and who was in the room. I'm trying to find her so she could help me out and make sure we have everybody. OK?

- I can do that.

- OK.

- I'm the UPM. This is-- if it's not her set, it's mine. So I can help you. Tell me how I can help.

- OK, who is this?

- This is our lawyer.

- OK. Lieutenant Benavidez. I didn't mean to be rude to you, ma'am, I'm sorry. I'm just trying to secure-- I'm just trying to secure everybody. And who is that?

- [INAUDIBLE]

- Benavidez.

- No, no, you're fine.

- I have a whole lot of people coming this way, so.

- I'm sure.

- OK.

- [INAUDIBLE] one of our co-producers.

- OK.

- These two gentlemen right here are Lucas and Marcos. They are my locations peeps.

- Yes.

- A little farther down in the white is Shannon, she's the owner of the ranch. The gentleman who I was talking to earlier in the brown hat is Brian, the production designer.

- Yes, I've met him. OK. I'll be with you in a little bit, ma'am. OK, let me talk to my guys to secure this area. Corporal! I need somebody on that side to secure so we're not going in and out. We're-- everybody, pretty much, that's in is staying in. OK, I have not started a crime scene log because it's still fluid. We still have that helo on deck. OK, I don't know--

- One patient still here, then?

- One patient's still here. Did we have somebody going to the hospital?

- [INAUDIBLE]

- OK. Where do want the other person at?

- If you could stand on that side? And make sure people aren't coming in and out. Everybody that's in, stays in. OK? I have the Corporal on that side with Sanchez. He's still trying to get the information. It looks like we have all the people that were in the room.

- [INAUDIBLE]

- OK, come here. If you could go see that gentleman. Sanchez! I need you to stay by my unit.

- OK.

- I have the weapon in my truck-- in my truck, and all the ammunition on that tree.

- OK.

- OK.

- So it was an actual gun?

- Alec Baldwin, he's sitting over there, he shot-- and then he shot-- he got the gun from the armorer who I have in my car. She's not under arrest. She [INAUDIBLE] the armorer. So she's in there, so if you can help with that. And this will be your entry point right here.

- OK.

- OK?

- [INAUDIBLE] on his way over.

- Yep.

- Yep.

- They still have those charges. [INAUDIBLE] I told them to-- [INAUDIBLE].

- Yeah.

- [INAUDIBLE]

- No.

- It's here, it's in my unit. [INAUDIBLE] all these [INAUDIBLE]. [INAUDIBLE] she said-- this is the one that's empty. This is the one that she said, [INAUDIBLE].

- [INAUDIBLE]

- It's a .45. I have the dummy rounds right here. It's .45.

- OK.

- OK? And we will-- let's go this way. I have a lawyer here already. OK, we need a date of birth for the med.

- Date of birth and social.

- For me or for her?

- For her.

- Would anybody have that?

- Yeah, give me two seconds.

- Thank you.

- Hey, the name was Halyna Hutchinson?

- Halyna Hutchins. H-Y-L-E-N-A. Here, let me get it for you.

- You got it, Doc?

- Thank you.

- Yeah.

- So I have-- looks like Alec Baldwin is the one that pulled the trigger.

- Yeah, but I have the armorer in my unit. I have the gun with Puentez, and there-- the tray has the dummy rounds. OK? I have Frederick on that side, Puentez is taking care of-- here, he's going to start taking care of the log.

- I got this down until they get-- the patient's still behind there [INAUDIBLE].

- OK. Make sure everybody goes to Sanchez. All the personnel that were in there, make sure he has everybody. OK?

- This thing gets Sanchez-- there is a lot of people here.

- Yeah, I have more people coming. Is she OK? Is she OK?

- She's shaken up.

- I know, that's-- that's why I called the meds for her. I want her to checked to make sure she's not, you know.

- I think they're testing her sugar level right now.

- OK. We just need [INAUDIBLE].

- I'll bring it back.

- Yeah.

- OK.

- [INAUDIBLE]

- As long as she's OK. She's already dealing with all this [INAUDIBLE].

- [INAUDIBLE]

- OK.

- Let me know if you have any questions about anything.

- Yes. So she told me which guns were-- I mean, which bullets came from-- from it. I'm going to keep everything else the same. I'm going to keep--

- These? Like these here? Those are dummies.

- OK. Well, I'm pretty sure somebody will ask you [INAUDIBLE].

- Yeah, yeah, yeah. Understand.

- Yes, so that's already secured.

- Somebody's getting [INAUDIBLE]?

- Yeah.

- OK.

- It's 'cause I switched my unit.

- I got two extra people which help me out-- helping secure this area. I have-- we have people in line to take their information. Right now, there is a lot of people here. We-- like I-- OK. So right now, I do have the dummy rounds, the armorer, and the gun secured, OK? Yes. That's when I grabbed her right away. She was-- and we did secure the film. We do have the film secured, which they'll have to go over with you, how to use it and all that. But that's-- that's going to be later down the line, I guess, or whenever. But everything was getting filmed. OK?

Helo's still on the ground. Right now, I don't know. They're still working here. You're still working. It was a through-and-through through the chest. Yes, sir. Goodbye.

Did we get a crime scene log for Puentez? Did we get a crime scene log for Puentez?

- I can't find it in my truck.

- OK, you ladies doing OK?

- Just waiting on your green light.

- Yes.

- I'm to be getting wherever it is that people are being interviewed.

- OK, that's not going to be on us. The detectives are coming.

- OK, so it's not begun yet.

- What's up?

- The interviews have not yet begun.

- No. I have not-- nothing. We just secured the armorer, we secured the gun, and the ammunition. That's the only thing we've done.

- That's the only thing that's happening right now.

- Yes. And then we are getting all the information, all the people that were in the room.

- OK.

- OK? I'm going to go check on-- on the victim. And then--

- She's here? I thought she already went to the hospital.

- No, she's still here. They're still-- they're trying to stabilize her. I will let you know how she's doing. I know you guys are concerned. So I'm going to let you guys know. OK?

- Thank you. I appreciate that.

- Yes, ma'am. How're you doing, sir? Hey, doc, is there any way I can put the air conditioner on for you guys? OK.

- Thank you.

- You guys have a direct?

- Excuse me.

- Is that a map?

- Uh, she's-- she's still alive right now. She's pretty stable right now. They are signing her and then the firearm.

- OK.

- Yeah. So she's alive.

- OK. So she is stable.

- She's-- I mean, she's critical, but she's stable.

- OK, thank you. Critical, but stable. Yes. Went through-- through the chest. What's up, chief? Sir?

- What's taking so long?

- They're trying to stabilize her. They-- we have the medic in there from the med and they're trying to stabilize her. It looks like-- I just asked, he said they're trying to stabilize her and she's critical.

- Yeah.

- You know that?

- No, I know, I'm just-- sometimes--

- Sorry about your blues. I know you were at the--

- Ceremony? Yeah.

- (ON RADIO) [INAUDIBLE] makes sense for me to interrupt.

- I have people are getting on, a lot.

- Thank you.

- We just got to get names now.

- Yes. Sanchez! Where is everybody? Where-- where are they?

- She's here. One of the guys went to the back. This Russell guy, the--

- I need everybody right here, separated. I thought that's what the Corporal told you. Get everybody here, separated. Nobody leaves.

- All right. One guy already left to the hospital. That was his-- that was his best friend. I don't know what.

- Was he the one that was following them?

- Yeah.

- No. So who's your supervisor for the scene? Get with her again.

- I have it. I have his name and I have his number.

- Nobody-- get everybody here, nobody else leaves, Sanchez.

- All those people in the back, are they a part of this?

- Yes, everybody. Yes. Yeah, that's why I was calling for more units, because we have people everywhere. Need it open? It's open. Yeah, and you can get a clipboard. OK, so she's stable, but critical. They're trying to stabilize her so she can get on that helo.

- OK.

- OK, so that she is alive, but critical condition and they're trying to stabilize her. So they-- so they could be comfortable when they get on that helo.

- OK.

- OK?

- Thank you.

- Thank you for that.

- OK. But I will give you-- if you see them taking up to the helo, that's a good sign, they stabilized her. And they're going to fly her out.

- Unconscious?

- Yes. OK? Anything else? I'm going to find you guys, OK?

- We'll be here.

- I have another question.

- OK, you'll see the detectives are all in unmarked cars? They're going to come in a crime scene van. OK? And they'll-- when they get here, I'll give you the Lieutenant and-- OK? And I'll hand them over to you. OK? Yes, ma'am. She doing OK? She-- he was inside the--

- He was inside?

- Yes.

- [INAUDIBLE] at the back.

- What kind of car? If you get a car right here where you can watch her-- because as soon as the detectives get here, they're going to--

- No, I understand.

- So if you get another car--

- [INAUDIBLE]

- I asked her-- that's why I asked her. I just wanted her in one place, I didn't want her to pass out and fall down.

- No, I understand.

- You got another car? All right.
