Sterling holds near $1.21 as traders review BoE forecasts
The British pound was little changed against the dollar and euro on Monday as traders digested last week's Bank of England (BoE) decision and turned their focus to growth figures due on Friday that should give clues on the state of the economy. The data, expected to show a contraction during the quarter, will be released a week after the Bank of England (BoE) said it expects the United Kingdom to enter a recession in the fourth quarter this year and not emerge until 2024. The central bank's outlook was coupled with a half-point interest rate rise to 1.75%, a large increase by the BoE's standards but lower than those of some other global central banks, including the Federal Reserve and Bank of Canada.

Götheborg, the world’s largest, active, ocean-going and wooden sailing ship has arrived in London. The vessel, open to the public, will sail across the city and fire cannons next to Tower Bridge. The ship is a replica of an 18th-century tall sailing ship. It was built using all the original techniques and materials of the original. The original model owes its origins to the Swedish East India Company, which traded between 1731 and 1813, and was at the time, Sweden’s most valuable company. The first Swedish Ship Götheborg was launched in 1738 and went through three adventurous voyages to China, including one where it was hijacked by the British, before its wrecking outside the Fortress of Älvsborg, a former county of Sweden. In 1993, the Swedish East India Company was refounded, but this time with the mission to rebuild the Götheborg. The ship now tours the world and last visited London in 2007.

Just Group reports rise in underlying profit, pays dividend
British specialist insurer Just Group posted a 15% rise in first half underlying operating profit to 74 million pounds ($89.42 million) on Tuesday, as it restored an interim dividend of 0.5 pence per share. Just Group reinstated its dividend in March after reporting a 9% jump in annual profit. "Following our strong H1 22, we have increased confidence of delivering 15% growth in underlying operating profit per annum, on average over the medium term," said David Richardson, group Chief Executive Officer of Just Group, which provides annuities for people with reduced life expectancy.
