'It Feels So Wrong And Sad': Lady Gaga Calls For Boycott Of Russian Olympics

Lady Gaga has always been a gay rights supporter, so it is no surprise that she wants athletes to boycott the Winter Olympics in Russia. She thinks it is "so wrong and sad" to send champions to a country with such a terrible gay rights policy.

The Applause singer is very vocal about equality and so she has joined people like Lily Allen, who think Russia shouldn't be allowed to benefit from the event because of their treatment of gays.

"To be honest, I don't think that we should be going to the Olympics at all, I don't know if my opinion is not highly regarded, in terms of the amazing champions and people that are rehearsing and training for the event," she tells Alan Carr on his Chatty Man talk show.

While she understands that the athletes will want to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics whether they agree with the country's view on gays or not, she wishes the country wasn't given the opportunity to hold it in the first place.

"I mean I would never take anything away from their hard work, I just think it is absolutely wrong for so many countries to send money and economy in the way of a country that doesn't support gays... But it's not just that they don't support the gay community, they pepper spray and beat them in Russia," she adds.

Although she hates the country for its terrible treatment of gays, she did head there on her Born This Way Ball tour. She admits it was sad for her to see the pain of gays when she was there, so she rebelled onstage by screaming "I'm gay, arrest me".

"You know what, I don't think I'm even allowed in anymore because I screamed 'I'm gay, arrest me' on stage last time I was there, " she tells Alan. "I never really understand with activists when they get upset when they get arrested, I'm like 'Isn't that the point, that you get arrested?' Because you have to contest the law, and they didn't arrest me when I was there so I couldn't contest the law."
