Adele has reportedly quit Twitter after receiving nasty death threats about her newborn son from trolls on the social networking site.

The 'Skyfall' singer gave birth to her first child with boyfriend Simon Konecki on October 19, and while she mostly received positive congratulatory messages, there were some who flooded the singer's Twitter with threats against her son's life.

As a result of the online abuse, a friend of the singer's has revealed that she has quit the social networking site.

"She couldn’t believe people would be so awful about a baby," the source told the Daily Star.

It seems the news of the death threats didn't reach 'Born This Way' singer Lady Gaga, who questioned why Adele didn't receive criticism for her weight, in a recent interview.

"I thought, well I don't really care if they think I'm fat, because, quite honestly, I did gain about 30 pounds," Gaga told Stylist magazine.

"Adele is bigger than me, how come nobody says anything about it? She's so wonderful and I think her confidence is something I have to match."

"She has set the bar very high for a lot of women. I need to be a confident woman and just say politically-active things when I can that are helpful to young people," the source continued.

Aside from the death threats, Adele is said to be revelling in becoming a new mother and has even been receiving parenting advice from none other than Robbie Williams.

"My wife and Adele are friends and I think my wife will be offering advice," Robbie told The Mirror.

"Adele has a massive heart; she'll be a great mum."
