BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg given bodyguards to protect her at Labour conference

The BBC have hired bodyguards to protect their political editor at Labour conference over fears about her safety.

Laura Kuenssberg has reportedly been targeted by a left-wing hate mob who have sent her a series of threats because they believe she is biased against Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

According to The Sun, the BBC have hired a protection team to keep her safe during the four-day event in Brighton.

An insider told the newspaper: “We take the safety of our staff extremely seriously.

“Laura is a well-known public figure.

“She and her team will be covering events with big crowds where there can be hostility, so we want to ensure adequate precautions are taken.”

Ms Kuenssberg has been the focus of trolling by hard-left supporters of Mr Corbyn, who claim she deliberately reports negatively on him.

An online petition demanding she be sacked drew over 35,000 signatures but was removed by campaign group 38 Degrees because of “sexist and hateful” comments.

Ms Kuenssberg has also been booed by Corbyn supporters when questioning him at press conferences.
